FL Dept of Health in Pinellas - Immunization Outreach Program

Immunization Program

The primary goal of our immunization program is to prevent the spread of vaccine-preventable diseases in Pinellas County.

Our health centers offer free childhood immunizations as well as adult immunization for a fee Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

These immunization services are offered on a walk-in basis; no appointments are required.

Foreign travel immunizations are offered at our Mid County Health Center, 8751 Ulmerton Rd., Largo, on an appointment-only basis.

Vaccine Fees for Clients

There is no charge for routine children’s immunizations.

Adult immunizations are offered; fees may be applied.

*Note: Customers providing proof of Medicare Part B (non-HMO) coverage may be eligible for Influenza (Flu) and Pneumococcal (Pneumonia) vaccines at no charge to the customer.

Foreign Travel Vaccines  

Foreign travel clients are seen by appointment only.

Please bring photo ID (not on your phone), and check in 15 minutes before your appointment time to complete registration paperwork. In addition to providing all of the countries IN ORDER of travel when you make your appointment, please bring to your foreign travel appointment a printed itinerary and a printed immunization record if available.

Before you start packing for foreign travel, get any immunizations recommended to protect your health.

Foreign travel immunizations are offered at our Mid County location, 8751 Ulmerton Rd., Largo, Monday through Friday. Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on an appointment-only basis. Call (727)824-6900, option 4. Your contact information will be obtained by the Call Center and a message will be sent to the foreign travel nurse who will call you with appointment information.  Travel vaccines are not offered at other DOH-Pinellas locations.

(Please note that there are other clinics in the Tampa Bay area that are not part of the Florida Department of Health that also administer travel vaccines.)

The DOH-Pinellas foreign travel nurse offers in-person consultations regarding vaccines for a fee of $50 per person. THE CONSULTATION AND FEE ARE NOT OPTIONAL and is in addition to the price of any vaccine.  No consultations are provided on the phone or via email.

The Health Department does not bill insurance.

*Note: Persons 60 years of age and older are required to present a physician’s prescription before yellow fever vaccine can be administered.

All Pinellas County children entering kindergarten must provide proof of the following immunizations:

  • 4-5 doses of DTaP (Diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis)

  • 3 doses of Hepatitis B

  • 3-5 doses of Inactivated polio (IPV)

  • 2 doses of MMR (Measles, mumps and rubella)

  • 2 doses of Varicella (chickenpox) or documented evidence of chickenpox disease

All Pinellas County adolescents entering 7th grade need to present proof of a Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis). Human papillomavirus (HPV) and Meningococcal ACWY are not required; however, these shots are recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices. Adolescents 11 or 12 years old should get two shots of HPV vaccine six to twelve months apart. Adolescents who start the series at 15 years of age or older will require a third dose of HPV. Adolescents 11 or 12 years of age should get a dose of Meningococcal ACWY, followed by a second dose at age 16 years of age.


A completed Certificate of Immunization from the Florida Department of Health (DH680) is issued when the student has received all required immunization. All required immunization dates or exemptions must be on the form.

 

Adult Immunization Information

FDOH-Pinellas offers a variety of routine vaccinations for adults. Vaccine fees may be applied.

Much like children and adolescents, adults need to keep their immunizations up to date to protect themselves from diseases that can result in death or disability. Talk to your doctor before receiving any vaccines to make sure they are right for you!

These vaccines include:

  • Hepatitis A

  • Hepatitis B

  • Herpes Zoster (shingles)

  • HPV (human papillomavirus) - 19 yrs. through 26 yrs. (If you are 27 yrs. through 45 yrs., talk with your healthcare provider to see if this vaccine is right for you!).

  • Influenza (flu)

  • Meningococcal

  • MMR (measles, mumps, rubella)

  • Pneumococcal

  • Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis)

  • Varicella (chickenpox)
